Do you have a word for the year? What is motivating you to keep moving forward, despite the hurdles you encounter?
Last year I chose “bold” which developed into “courage” as a nudge to keep me going. This year it is “raise the bar”. Have you considered what word or phrase would motivate you?
My phrase emerged as I created my vision board for this year. I considered what I wanted to achieve and what it would take to do this.
You don’t have to be immersed in a vision board workshop to do this effectively. You can go through a series of steps to elicit what word or phrase would motivate you or simply just choose one, try it on, see how it feels.
There’s no right or wrong. Draft a list of words which resonate with you when you are thinking about want you want more or less of in your life or business. If your mind is blank just google “word of the year ideas’ to see the many lists that have been generated. Your word might find you or you might select it once you are clear on what want to bring into your life this year.
Your word or phrase is likely to be more than a motivating nudge however, it can also be a helpful filter or lens through which you can make decisions – is X helping me to achieve ‘Y’? In my case, for example, “is this pending meeting likely to help me to raise my bar”?
From experience, I know having a word or phrase for motivation or guidance when your chips are down can be invaluable. And don’t forget, if you choose a word and after a few days it just isn’t resonating with you, it’s absolutely OK to try another one.
